Indie game studio Gbanga brings Universal’s iconic Netflix show «Voltron: Legendary Defender» to Steam and Microsoft Store, to prove that indie game creators can bring new and innovative games based on big entertainment brands to market.
«Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion» is a truly unique blend of genres: an action-packed one-on-one real-time-strategy game boiled down to a single sideview screen with fighting game and puzzler elements. Every play session is different as the game allows endless strategies and fun situations in both online multiplayer and local couch battles.
«Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion» came out as the winner from over 500 games in the world-wide competition.
The game is inspired by an episode from season 2 of the Netflix series where the Olkari people were forced to build a single gigantic cube superweapon that tried to destroy Voltron. The game takes this idea and imagines evil emperor Zarkon taking another shot at the idea saying «Why build one cube when you can build millions?» and creating an array of weaponized cubes which he mass-produces by enslaving the Olkari.
«Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion» came out as the winner from over 500 games submitted by studios that participated the world-wide competition «Universal GameDev Challenge». Universal invited independent game creators to design a PC game for one of their worlds.The contest was sponsored by Microsoft, Unity, Intel, and Universal Studios.
Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion was available on Steam and Microsoft Store between 2019 and 2022.
