Gbanga is 10!

10 years ago, on April 2nd 2007, we started Gbanga in our very first office space to create mixed-reality games. In the last decade we have grown from a 2 person start-up to a 15 people company, from an early pioneer to one of the biggest game studios in Switzerland. Something that would never have been possible without our players, our partners and our team members. So we thank all of you! Thank you that you make our exciting ride with mixed-reality games happen!

We blend the real world with the virtual world

From the very start we pushed for tailor-made games that extend the screen and blend the real world with the virtual world. In the beginning phase this especially meant location-based games – like in Zooh where you bring escaped virtual animals back to the real zoo with the help of GPS. Since then, we continuously bring in more real-world aspect into games: body movement, direction of view, local weather, time of the day are some of many elements that create tailor-made and immersive game experiences. This is what we call mixed-reality game design and is our vision since day one.

Gbanga and the future of mixed-reality games

As pioneer of mixed-reality games we see the genre growing to become the future of gaming: Pokémon Go with its location-based game mechanic, omnipresent Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are the technical and conceptual foundation for mixed-reality games. With the rise of these new technologies and more and more players adopting them, we strongly believe that this is the age of mixed-reality games. And we will continue our strategy to put our experience in launching own intriguing games and offering our fascinating experiences to customers. We are delighted that we have started 2017 strong.

• The anniversary year will see the launch of two international and national mixed-reality games.
• Later in the year, we will have a surprise. And while we stay secretive still, we promise you, it’s all very much mixed-reality.
• And last but not least, we’ll continue to promote the mixed-reality game genre with different activities such as events, talks, blog posts, and, of course, a 10 year anniversary party to thank all our partners, friends and our fantastic team.
