Building worlds in Minecraft

One of the Indie phenomena of 2010 has definitely been Minecraft, a game about placing blocks and build stuff. It may sound very simple and in fact…it is. Minecraft has very simple graphics and mechanics, but the ability to build blocks and carve blocks in the huge open world is what allows for its complexity to arise.

Gamers have spent hours and hours building huge, complex constructions (eg. a 16-bit computer processor). If you type “Minecraft” on YouTube, you can find countless fan-made trailers.

The Minecraft community has grown from pure word of mouth and now it has reached almost 1 million users, which is a very impressive number considering there was no marketing and publisher involved.

With Gbanga, we also like open worlds that offer dynamically generated content and so we are very pleased to see that games like Minecraft are very well received by the gaming community.
